I was 12 years old when I fell in love with the Sloughi as I was looking at pictures in one of the many books my father had about Arabian culture. This was in 1960, and I was living then with my parents in France. It took 2 years to locate the only Sloughi breeder in Europe at the time and 2 years of my pocket money to achieve my dream. In 1962 my first Sloughi, Lakhd'Ymauville came to live with me. I have always lived with Sloughis since 1962. My husband, a cat lover, did not take long to succumb to the charm of the Sloughi either, in particular our beloved bitch Basma, and we are now both very devoted to the breed. We moved to the USA in the fall of 1990, and established the Shi'Rayân kennel (Iowan kennel licence 0004539) in 1993. Once in the USA, we discovered that there was a lot of confusion between the Saluki, the Sloughi and the Azawakh. I published several articles (several in Sighthound Review, another in DogWorld, and several others) to describe the differences between these 3 breeds. We are members of the Sloughi Fanciers Association of America (SFAA). Dominique de Caprona, Ph.D.
